Maui

3* Kaanapali Beach Hotel
Located right on what is probably the best beach in Maui, the Kaanapali Beach Hotel prides itself on being Maui's "most 
Hawaiian" hotel. This translates into lots of tiki torches in the garden and plenty of Hawaiiana decor throughout the property. It is a good hotel, great for families and couples alike, offering large, comfortable rooms all accessed by outdoor corridors, some overlooking the whale shaped pool. There is a full entertainment programme which you can choose to opt into or you can easily book local excursions and tours at the hospitality desk in the lobby. The hotel is close to Whaler's Village shopping centre with a number of good bars and restaurants.
3* Aston at the Maui Banyan
There are not too many hotels in the 3* and 4* category in Maui. Self-catering apartments (condominiums) fill the gap. 
Privately owned but rented by management companies to holiday makers, the standard of decor can vary greatly but we think the Maui Banyan is one of the better options. There can be limited availability during the US holiday seasons (i.e. November) so Aloha Holidays prefers to recommend hotels during these times. On the opposite side of the island from Lahaina, these self-catering are in the seaside town of Wailea and across the road from the public beaches and parks. The apartments are sideways on to the road and the beach so don't expect fabulous views but do expect clean, well kept public areas, swimming pool, nice apartments all with air conditioning and full facilities. Wailea offers family restaurants, shops and bars, but as in many places in Maui, nightlife tends to end early by Irish standards.
3* Maui Coast Hotel
On the same side of the island as the Maui Banyan, the Maui Coast Hotel offers a good location for dining, shopping, golf 
and beach activities. There is a small but nice heated swimming pool with pool bar offering all-day snacks and the beach is a short stroll away (about 5 minutes). There's an impressive lobby area and live entertainment most evenings between 6pm and 9pm. The hotel is officially rated 4* but we'd suggest it's about 3.5*. The large rooms were redectorated in 2009 (they were well due a spruce up) and offer all the standard amenities but there's not much of a view. It is clean and well maintained so if you prefer the facilities of an hotel rather than self-catering and don't want to go for 5* this could be choice for you. There is no resort fee at this property.
4* Royal Lahaina Resort
Also right on Ka'anapali Beach the highlight of this resort are the newly refurbished rooms and garden cottages. They are really lovely with large beds, showers and great
lanais (balconies). During whale watching season you can frequently spot these majestic creatures swim past right from your room! Once the public areas get their scheduled upgrade treatment (they're clean but showing their age a bit at present) this is going to be one heck of a property! In the meantime, don't hang around the lobby too much but do relax on a lounger by the garden swimming pool or on the fabulous beach. Alternatively, head into the nearby town of Lahaina or play a round or two of golf on one of the island's many great courses.
4* Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
The Marriott brand won't let you down and this property is no 
exception. It's a good, all round resort hotel, well laid out with plenty of facilities. Located at Wailea it is close to golf, tennis and shopping as well as a nice beach. The property features 2 restaurants, 2 cocktail lounges and a pool-side snack bar. The rooms are large and comfortable many having recently been renovated (in 2008).
4* Makena Beach & Golf Resort (formerly Maui Prince Hotel)
In our view this is probably one of the best value 4* properties in Maui because it is, in reality, much closer to a 5*. The location is tiny bit remote, being a few minutes drive outside Wailea, but this means the 
management offer that little bit more in the way of extras, such as free parking and a complimentary shuttle service into Wailea and to nearby golf. The rooms have just received (late 2008) complete make-over with new paint, new furnishings and floorings so everything is looking fabulous. It is a good honeymoon spot, but it is also great for families as it has swimming pools, complimentary mini-golf, is right on Turtle Town Beach and has a great kids' entertainment programme (extra - pay locally).
5* Sheraton Maui
You could happily spend your entire time in Maui without leaving the confines of this 
resort (but that would be a shame!). It is right on Kaanapali Beach and every evening there is an impressive torch lighting / cliff diving ceremony along the jagged Black Rock. This is a full service resort with great food, great service and a great ambience. Honeymooners love this place, especially as there is an effort to accommodate families with young children in particular sections of the complex well away from the other guests.
5* Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa
Another great honeymoon location with its tall accommodation towers surrounding open landscaped atriums. There is something here for everyone: a half acre pool with a 150 foot lava tube water slide, lush landscaping with exotic wildlife; a rooftop astronomy programme; 6 tennis courts; 4 award winning restaurants; 2 lounges and a fabulous oceanfront full-service spa.
